I'm Mark from Montreal. Iphone running 1.1.3 on Fido. Too lazy to upgrade to 1.1.4 since there don't seem to be aby real advantages.

As for the data fees...if you don't enter your EDGE settings, you won't get charged. So don't worry! :)

I live in the Falls. the iPhone debuted when I was on vacation in NYC with my wife and daughter. I saw my first phone there and marveled at how it felt in my hand. One day we were walking down the street and I spotted a guy working through his phone. I stopped him to talk to him about it and he said that the phone stood up to the hype.

A few weeks later, in July, my wife bought me an 8g phone for my birthday in Buffalo, NY. I have been OBSESSED with it ever since. At times I have stayed up all night trying to get the latest hack to work. Ziphone has made the process a breeze compared to the other hacks to activate and unlock the phone. Sometimes I feel sick that this has taken up so much of my time. But don't you just love it. I mean in your pocket, bag or purse you have a gadget that will entertain you with audio, video, games, keep you organized and so much, much more. It is just the item that I have been wanting for all this time. I'm sure that many of you have "wasted" your time trying to get various gadgets to do it all only to end up with something that just didn't cut it. So I am glad to be able to share with you folks our obsession.

Hi Gary, Jeff here...the forums are a nice addition. You're running a great site, it's a fine resource. I'm running a 1.1.3 iPhone on Rogers. Purchased over the counter at an NYC Apple Store, opened by your's truly with Ziphone. Currently looking into upgrading to 1.1.4 but may wait for the next big release (2.0 perhaps?)

Hi Gary:
Thanks for the Forums. My name's Jim. Just picked up an iPhone. Got tired of checking the rumours daily, to see something official happen. So went out and got a 16 gig iphone a week and a half ago. Love it! And also, I find myself with lots of questions and thoughts. So, thanks again, will see you online.

Hi I'm Brian from the big island (Vancouver Island) and I am having my new 16gig iphone delivered to me from my nephew in the US on Friday. I've been lurking on iphone Canada website for weeks and find the information a treasure vault for iphone fanatics. Can't wait to get my new phone. Unfortunately I will be stuck with Rogers. When I called last week, the Rogers rep said they would be changing the rate plans this summer hmmmmm, iphone coming to Canada?

Hello,

My name is Adam and I have an iPhone since mid January 2008. I got it off of eBay unlocked and jailbroken since at the time I believe Ziphone didn't exist and there was no really simple fail-proof method of unlocking it yourself. Thanks to Gary and Ziphone I was able to upgrade to 1.1.4 on my own with no problems. I got my iPhone with firmware 1.1.3 when I bought it, I have Rogers and my biggest problem at the moment would have to be that I don't receive a voicemail notification of any kind. I didn't before I updated and I don't now that I have. Anyways that's enough of an introduction. Hello to all and thanks Gary for all the help!

Hi guys,

my name is Gray, and I'm from Toronto studying business in Waterloo right now.

Been following the iPhone every day since it's announcement way back in January 2007. Really considering purchasing one, but I'm too scared that either I'm going to go broke, or a legit version of the iPhone will come out and it will either be iPhone v.2 or Rogers simply won't allow non-legit iPhones on their network.

Either way, I will pee my pants the day Rogers announces their iPhone, no matter WHAT the prices of data are.

I've programmed about a dozen iphones for local friends and my wife has an 8gig and is on 1.1.3. If anybody knows of someone that wants to take over a Telus account (free palm 700wx), I'd be next in line at the Apple Store to get my own iPhone.

My name is Mike and I am in Edmonton. I got my iPhone locally from a guy who won it at a conference in Las Vegas (posted on craigslist). Steal of a deal! It was an original (1.0.1 i think), I upgraded, activated, jailbroke, & unlocked using the wifi way. Then last week I went to 1.1.4 using ZiPhone. Lovin' the Google Maps on 1.1.4. I'm protecting my phone with the Otterbox case - it's beefy but tuff. Couldn't be happier with my iPhone.

Hi everybody,

I'm currently in Montreal. I have bought some iPhones when it was possible to software unlock them in September and since I have had no iPhone for myself... But this may change next week, as I have sold my 80Gb iPod to finance a 16Gb iPhone !

I'll try iPlus2.0b to unlock it and report about it here !

I am iphoneless at the moment, but I desperately want to get one. I have this feeling that if I went out and bought one and unlocked it, Apple would shortly after announce the official release of it in Canada... which is why I still haven't gotten one.

Been waiting since the summer and I'm hoping Apple will finally release it in Canada THIS summer!

From Winnipeg, MB. I'm currently using Rogers, with no data plan, holding out until they get a bit cheaper - which could be a while.

I'm the techy in my household, my husband was like "You paid what for that?" He also said the same thing about the MacBook when I first brought it home, he loves it now.

So glad there finally is a forum - I can geek out here with you guys over the iPhone!!

hey i am dan
just arrived in canada on 22nd of march (montreal) although i have been here a couple of times before

i bought a 1.1.4 OTB 16gb iphone in ireland on the release date 14th march - was able to get it off contract cause i worked at the cell phone provider (O2) in finance and the company was paying my bill

Unlocked my phone with iplus2.0b - it was a piece of cake.
Now i just signed up to Rogers on a monthly plan with MY5 and $7 unlimited WAP.

I have bad things to say about that state of competition in canada's mobile networks but i'll try not to piss people off with it hehe

other history:
i have been a nokia smart phone user since the 6600, n73 & now e65. I have voip wifi on my e65 to call home (australia) and work & friends and stuff from ireland. it's way cheaper than anything you can get here in canada and i love it.. just dying to get it on my iphone too

Ted here from Toronto. Web designer and general lay-about. I came here via Hackint0sh and glad there is Canuck Represent here on the interweb.

Got my iPhone three weeks after it's debut (1.0!) as a birthday gift (freaked out like a Japanese School girl on fire). Been obsessed since. Have tried pretty much every kind of hack/unlock/activation as they come along.

I tried my PSP's browser a couple days ago after 8 months of not turning it on. Man, that was painfully slow.

Hi guys and gals,

I am Sylvain from Terrebonne, Québec (just outside of Montreal).
I've purchased an 8GB 1.1.1 iPhone, last November, on eBay and have been enjoying it since. I just love the thing. I've tried many hacks and apps on it.

I am on Rogers with no data plan right now. In the past, I have been using several unlocked phones of different kind on my Rogers account but the iPhone is definitely the best one I've used!

I recently came back from a trip to Florida and I brought back another 8GB iPhone for a friend of mine. He loves it too, he's on Fido. I was toying with the idea to upgrade mine to a 16GB iPhone, but I resisted the temptation. I will wait for the next generation and perhaps one day we'll be able to get a 100GB iPhone! :)

I recently updated the iPhone to 1.1.4 and jailbroke and unlocked it. I love the new system software. Can't wait for 2.0!

Afternoon Everybody!

I just got meself an iphone a couple days ago and i'm loving it! My activation email for this forum didn't come right through away, so i've been reading a lot of stuff around here and you guys have already been a big help!

Looking forward to learning a bunch more.

This is my first foray into the unlocked cell world. I've been with Rogers for 18 years - same phone number - but always got phones from them. I've always been a motorola guy and was trying to wait til Rogers got the iphone, but just couldn't stand it any longer :D My last phone was the Q9h - what a piece of ****

Got myself an unlocked 8gb, 1.1.4 (ziphone). I wish i would have done it myself, cause i'm a little lost with respect to the terminology being used.....but i'm reading up on it.

I've been running win2000pro on my computer forever, and got home with the phone to realize i needed XP  Couldn't sync it with itunes or outlook, well, really couldn't do anything. So last night, I went to partition off a piece of my drive to load XP Home on it......puter got hung up mid way through and crashed. Tried everything i could of to recover it, but to no avail. Lost my entire HD
I'm just in the middle of loading programs back on so that i can finally get my contacts, music, etc onto this phone.

Sorry for the rambling, but i've been wanting to post here for a couple days, so it all just came flowing out!

See ya all around the forum:)

Hey everyone,

My name is Parsa and I'm from Toronto. Have been using a 1.1.1 iPhone since january 08. I have been repairing iPhones since last december but I got myself one this year.

I upgreaded my phone to 1.1.4 last week and it's working all well so far.

I have been with rogers and fido both but I prefer fido and that the carrier I'm on right now...

Finally I wanted to thank all the people who made this site and forume happen... it's such a great source of info for all of us... Thanks a lot guys and god bless

Hi everyone!

My name is Eric Trepanier, and I am from Laval (Montreal suburb).

I'm a new user in the forums. I got my iPhone a couple of weeks ago. It was bought at an Apple Store in Florida by a relative who lives and brought back over here by a friend of mine who is also a new member of this forum (Mr. Speedy).

My 8GB iPhone was running firmware 1.1.2 OOB. I restored it to 1.1.4 and then used ZiPhone (Mac OS X version) to activate/ jailbreak / unlock it.

It worked perfectly and I have been a happy iPhone user since.

I am currently on Fido but my friend Sylvain pointed me to the discussion on Rogers' 7$ unlimited data plan that some of you have been successfully using with your iPhones and I must say I am tempted...

This site is a great resource and I'm looking forward to spend more time on the forums!

My name is Lorilei (said: Laura Lee) & I'm a total IPhone newb, addicted to this site!
I have an 8GB, 1.1.4 IPhone, jailbroken with ZiPhone the second time, first time, did it myself after taking almost 10 hours (told u I'm a newbie!! LOL)
I live in Thunder Bay, which is in NorthWestern Ontario. I think I'm pretty well the only person in this area who has an IPhone, lol.
I got my IPhone by winning it thru a contest, put on by n49.ca. It's a company, based out of Toronto, very nice people working there. @ this site, u can write reviews about everything & anything.
Thank u sooooooo much, Gary & Lilskatapunk for the website & this forum. I am totally addicted to these 2 places & have found out a wealth of information becuz of them!
Plus, it's nice to have information that's relevant to our geographical area in which we live!
Happy Wednesday to everyone,

Got tired of telling myself that my Sip-Voip on my iPod Touch was an iPhone, hence I am now full fledged with a 16gb - 1.1.4. Loving it soo far. Soo many tweaks...soo little time...

Hi and greetings to everybody.

I'm Sid from Vancouver. I have been comtemplating buying an iPhone for 6 months but I'm no tech wiz so I'm a little worried about buying it in the states and try to unlock it in Canada. I'm a Fido user. I have read quite a few posts in this forum and have a general idea on unlocking the phone, but I would appreciate very much if somebody can confirm some of my questions:

1) Where is the best place to buy an iPhone for the best price? 8gb is enough but 16gb is also fine.

2) Once I have it is it easy to unlock it with ZiPhone and use it with Fido?

I know the answers are probably somewhere in this forum but if someone can confirm these I'll be very thankful.

cheers
Sid

1st, IMO there's no best place to buy an Iphone. As long as it's a safe source and you don't pay too much for it (important balance).

2nd, it is REALLY easy to unlock it, plenty of guides on the forum and plenty of people to help you here.

I use a GSM phone world wide for work.
I guess I've taken an interest because I'd like to use an iPhone here and everywhere but I'm not sure about Rogers acceptance if I chiphop and how to go about unlocking and jailbreaking to get some of the add-ons.

I'll be watching for hints and tips.

Any info is good info !!

My name is Jay and another Vancouver resident. Just got my iPhone yesterday from Hawaii. My Dad works down there so he picked one up for me and I met him at the airport in Van before he caught his connecting flight to Victoria where he lives.

Already in Love with it. Been drooling over them since they got released. Got home last night had everything set to go a couple days before I got it. Threw it in the dock and set to go in 5min. Spent all day today fiddling with it and testing out themes and such.

Great site guys. Nice to have an excellent resource for us up here.

Amen to that!

I normally get tired of the best phones in around 6 months. I've had the Iphone since almost the day it got out and I NEVER felt bored.

And with the SDK coming, ......., man it's gonna be awesome.

All we need is a data plan and I'm in heaven. Okay maybe a MacBook pro would help.

Just a quick question: How long have u been on the 20$ communication pack? I do have a communication pack but am seriously afraid to use my IPhone with it, just in case, the rumours on here come true & Rogers comes looking for my 'hide' in a couple of month down the road, telling me I owe them exhorbitant amounts of money!

Hey all,

I recently ditched my BBPearl for an iPhone I picked up when I was down in Orlando a few weeks ago. It's now jailbroken, unlocked and running on Rogers here in Ottawa. I also put an invisiblesheild on it to keep it beautiful. This thing definitely puts my old Pearl to shame. This site has been a huge help so far.

Hey Mystique! you're that girl with the hot voice from sunday's live talkcast :P
anyways I really recommend using your unlimited WAP plan because it really works! I have been using it for about 6 weeks now and on my rogers bill it said that I used 7894 kb of data and the cost = 0.00 $. I'm actually posting right now on my iphone over edge in my chemistry class(it's really boring) All you need to do is to go on your iphone, tap settings/general/network/edge and then enter the following commands:

APN -internet.com
user name -wapuser1
password - wap

Thats it ! If you really want to be sure that you won't get extra charges just call rogers after about a week of minimal edge internet usage and ask them if you have any extra charges regarding data. If everything works out you should not have this problem beacause I certainly don't! :)
Enjoy! and thank you for the warm welcome :p lol

Hey AppleDude!
Awwww,aren't u sweet?
Actually, I haven't signed up for unlimited data yet but rather just have an older data combo package.
Thanx 4 the advice; call me a chicken-sh*t but I'll wait just a little longer, just to c how people's Roger's bills turn out :)
I know, doesn't chemistry class blow? I took it for nursing & utterly hated it! However, I do have to say, when I finally decided to read the textbook @ the end of the semester, I was pleasantly surprised that I actually understood what the heck was going on!! LOL
Who were u in the talkcast, if u don't mind me asking? I should be attending this week's upcoming talkcast, barring any unforseen complications (Which means that hopefully, my 'beloved' laptop is back up running! I've been getting tonnes & tonnes of 'blue screens' & my one year warranty runs out tomorrow so I brought it in on Monday. The tech said I had tonnes of malware on it! That was a bummer, considering I just re-formatted 5 days ago!)
Anyways, thanx again 4 writing back

Hello. My name is Tim and I'm an iPhone addict. (This is where you all reply; "hi Tim"!!!). I'm 45, from Calgary. After reading these introductions, I think I'm one of the oldest users out there. Since getting my hands on my phone in January of this year, I have become obsessed with learning everything I can about these little wonders. I have always been somewhat of a computer geek, and since "turning Mac" about 5 years ago, I've become an even bigger geek! I've taught myself every possible way to jailbreak an iPhone, I've been selling the phones, I've bricked my own phone several times trying many different apps and procedures so that when a friend comes to me with help, I'm able to offer it!!!

My business offers me the (fortunate) luxury of spending a lot of time learning, buying the latest technology, traveling and keeping up with all of the latest Apple "toys"! I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the 3G phones :D

One final thing. A HUGE THANK YOU to iPhone Fan for your iPhoneinCanada site and for this forum. Hey Appledude... is this unlimited WAP plan from Rogers new? Do you have to be on it for the Edge to actually work with your settings? Can you give me more info about this plan and if you are actually still using this with no extra fees???

Follow-up. Just spoke to Rogers and they told me that I can't use these settings on a non-Rogers device without incurring the 5 cent per kb charge!? I'm going on the $15 per month plan with 3 months of unlimited data to see what the usage would actually be. He said; "Who knows, by the end of the 3 months, we may have the iPhone with all new plans, but this will at least give you an idea of data usage with no cost for going over the limit." Interesting statement... I'm with Mystique as far as being very cautious using their "unlimited" data plan on the iPhone. I don't want a surprise in the mail one day! A funny thing... I think I may have sold an iPhone to the guy I spoke with in PDA support!!!!
Thanks :)

I just took my Rogers simcard out of my razor and put it into the iphone. And presto it works. I just have a basic pay as you go $10 per month. I havn't tried any edge functions. Still need to thouroughly read through the docs.

I have an install app on there. Can I upgrade it safely?
Is it safe to install any app using this?
What do I have to watch out for when I plug into itunes so I don't get my phone bricked.

thanks in advance.

Hi,

In an effort to make my profile redundant, names Rene and I'm in Montreal and I've been using an iPhone since 1.1.1, after neatly kicking my Treo 680 into the St. Lawrence seaway.

I'm a web and graphic designer by profession, and I write books and articles on the side.

Since I tend to write about what I like, I've been doing a fair bit on the iPhone lately, and very much look forward to the day they become officially available in Canada (hopefully the day right after data rates become reasonable...)

I called my internet provider to see if there is a problem with my router. Told the Tech what I was trying to do and he gives me the reply that Iphone cannot work on the Sympatico Network. ( I don't know why he calls himself a Tech ?) I tried to explain that I was trying wifi and not phone...after 10 mins. I just gave up. Came across this GREAT SITE !! I like to say Hi to all and happy aps....:D

Hey I'm Greg from Calgary.
My friends mother is coming back from a trip to Florida with our 16GB Iphones!

I'm very excited and I've been addicted to this site. It is definitely what convinced me to leave the horrible Telus and go for the IPhone! and look forward to a brighter future. I've never even had an IPod before so I can't to start fiddling around on it when it comes!

Hey Lisa!!
Welcome to the forum! I'm telling you, once you get your phone, you will be utterly & completely addicted; wondering how you ever existed without this 'little piece of technological heaven' before it made it's way into your life!!LOL

It's so nice to see a fellow girl here, we're sort've few & far between (Sorry, guyz....wasn't meant to be a 'dig' or anything towards you. You guyz have been fantastic & some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of chatting with, on any forum!!)

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask as everyone is so nice here!
As a little piece of advice, which may help you so that you don't inadvertantly download a 'bad' application for the phone (which in turn forces you to have to restore/start all over), there's a really amazing site, called "Apple IPhone School". ( www.appleiphoneschool.com)

I wish I had known about this site when I first got my phone!! (Would've saved a couple of 'restores' & much stress, thinking I had 'bricked' my IPhone becuz of incompatability issues/bad apps!) They're really nice on that site as well....(Altho IPhone in Canada is still 'Number One' in my books!!)

What the site does is: they review all the applications that are reputable for the IPhone, thru either Installer or Cydia. They will provide screenshots of the application, describe how it works, what the application is good for, etc. As well, in the comments section, people write in with either questions or make comments on how well or badly the application works with their phone, etc.

Sorry for the long email but really wanted to pass along some information, that hopefully, is useful! Welcome, please let us all know when you get your phone! Hope to see you @ the live Podcasts on Sunday evenings as well!

Have a great week,
Cheers,
Mystique :)

Hi Aaron, TBear,Brent,Randy & all new friends to the forum!

Isn't the IPhone the most greatest piece of 'Heavenly Technology' that was ever made? Aren't you feeling completely & utterly addicted to your IPhone?

My IPhone has 'died' a few times, due to downloading thru Installer, a few applications that have rendered my phone completely 'un-usable'! (I was beside myself when this happened as I had thought I had 'bricked' my phone, which thankfully, wasn't the case! I was soooooo devastated as well, becuz I live in Northern Ontario. As far as I know, I am the only person here who has a phone like this, except for one other person on this forum; sooooo...needless to say, I didn't have anywhere I could go, to get it fixed!)

When this happened, I kept thinking: "This is sooooo cruel! Now that I know what it was like to have had an Iphone & then, to have had it 'ripped' away....it almost would've been better to never have had one @ all" becuz I was completely lost without it!

Without this forum, I wouldn't have been able to have gotten my phone working again! Everybody here is just so nice! If you can, please join the rest of us on Sunday evenings on the live Podcast! I find it's one of the best well-spent hours of my week!

I learn so much;get to chat with other IPhone enthusiasts (Or should I say: Fellow IPhone-a-holics?LOL), get all my questions answered & there's always a chance to win some cool prizes (altho u gotta watch out for IBog,
X1Zero & Bismuth.....they keep changing the rules on us....Actually, I'm just joking.....they do change things up but it keeps us on our toes & there's never a 'dull moment',lol!)

Brent: U gotta jump on the 'IPhone BandWagon'....You must be a very patient person, waiting for your phone!! Actually, if it was me, I'd still be 'waiting',lol. I didn't buy my phone but rather won it off of a contest back in January. Now that I think about it though, with all the 'IPhone Rumours' out there, it may be wise to wait a little longer with the 'whisperings' about the 3G coming out, just around the corner!

Whew! I wrote another 'novel' here, sorry about that guyz!
Welcome & hope to hear more from all of u!
Cheers,
Mystique :)

Sorry, wish I did know the time frame cuz altho I won this phone, I'm sooooo tempted to try to sell this phone & then buy one of the new ones but I know, without a doubt, that I'd be lost if I went without my IPhone for even one day & had to go back to that 'piece of junk' that I got from Rogers! That's for sure Mystique! It's actually kind of scary! The days are going by so slow waiting to hear the news on the 9th of June  I know what you mean about not being able to go a day without your iPhone! I'm gonna wait and buy a new one and have them both before I try to sell this one... I can't take that chance either!

Have a great day in TBay my friends! We're expecting 20cm of white stuff here in Calgary today:(

yikes, 20cm wow..............
as for the new iphone and rogers? both mine are totally unlocked feature wise I wouldn't be surprised if the rogers version will have some kind of disabilities like all the other phones they carry. Moreover I would rather have my own iphone than to sign up or upgrade with rogers to have some kind of special plan. I'm also not worried about G3, wifi is still faster and I find I use it 90% of the time. On a side note I see the current batch/version of iphones are proven, who is to say what the new iphone will be like.

Mystique
05-08-2008, 06:58 AM
Actually, Comp56, you do have some good points there! I don't think I'd ever buy an IPhone thru Rogers! Too many catches, too many hang-ups, too many rules, etc as well as I'm positive that they'll price IPhones thru the roof! (IBog, I think it was, wasn't wrong when he called Rogers "Robbers"!!)
Even if the phone came here in Canada officially, I think if I updated, if there was a way to do it, I'd still buy from the States & just jail-break it! (Hopefully, that option would still be available?) :)

Hey everyone, greetings from Bangkok. I picked up my phone last November and other than dealing with Thai customer service the phone has been great! I can't believe how many different uses for the phone I've found while traveling that don't actually involve making calls. As a traveling tool the phone has been indispensable.

I'm coming back to Vancouver next week and I'm excited about the potential for the iPhone 2.0, especially if there is a chance it will work in Japan! Looking forward to helping this forum grow.

Waiting patiently for an official launch date in Canada for the iphone.

Can't wait to stop carrying around a ipod nano 2G, Palm Tx & cell phone.

Not planning on using the data part of the iphone. Wifi is good for me.

I'm wondering if buying an iphone from the Buffalo Apple store will be cheaper? Then I need to unlock it & there's no guarantee.

What to do, what to do?

From what I've read once you unlock a phone there's no more warranty.
If I'm wrong please let me know.

X1Zero

Yes.

If you are hacking/modifying the software, usually that voids your warranty but some crafty people have been able to wipe the device totally clean and still get warranty work.

Me here. I've been wanting an iPhone for over a year now, didn't have the money to get one nor the time to get one last year, but now I have the money to get one but not the time to go to Buffalo. And with the announcement of the iPhone coming here in July, I really couldn't be bothered to. I just hope the price of the Rogers plan for browsing isn't TOO ridiculous. ;)

Hello

I'm George from Hamilton, Ontario and I'm really confused as to what Iphone to buy.Wait for the Rogers release of the new iphone or buy a first generation and use that. Where is the best place to buy a used iphone? Will the first generation phones still work when the new ones are released?

Sorry for the dumb questions but when it comes to computers and iphones I'm still pretty green.

George, If you're new to computers as well as the iPhone then it might be best to wait until July and buy a 3G phone from Rogers. Not only will it mean that you don't have to go through the steep learning curve that's involved with hacking the original iPhone but it also means you'll have all the new features that the 3G version has. You're going to see tons of original iPhones on eBay now as people dump them to get the second generation version. I waited until the official phone from Rogers for most of the above reasons.

Good luck.

Signed up for the contest, but I'll try to stick around.

I'm currently on Rogers with a year-old Samsung d807x, but I'd like to upgrade to a 16GB iPhone ASAP. I've actually been saving up for months awaiting the announcement of it arriving in Canada officially…

I am only a high-school student, paying around $12 a month for my current phone (on a 3 year contract with 2 years left! uh oh!), so I am not looking forward to nearly $100 a month now…oh well. I'll do anything for an iPhone. Looks like I'm going to have to find a better-paying summer job, though, to save up for my plan fees throughout the school year.

Hey welcome to the forums...

This is crazy, don't go broke for a phone... It's not worth it. Sure it is a cool gizmo, but if you can't afford it, just wait, maybe something better will come out in a year or two.

I hope this does not indicate a new tread of people wanting to spend every last dime they got to get their hands on an iPhone. BTW, if you're willing to pay a bit more up front and keep your amazingly low monthly plan, consider going through eBay to get a 3G phone. Looks like some people (vendors?) are already taking pre-orders for the 3G iPhone. One of them even advertises free shipping to Canada (http://cgi.ebay.ca/PRE-ORDER-NOW-Apple-Iphone-3G-16gb_W0QQitemZ330244826196QQihZ014QQcategoryZ20336 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)!

Edit: Oh oh! It looks like some of those listing (which were available this morning) have already been removed from eBay! Conspiracy theory: Apple/AT&T/Rogers found out and asked eBay to shut them down?

hi!
ever since rogers announced the iphone coming to canada, i have lurked this website. and ever since they announced the plan, i check the forum nearly every day! (right after facebook and gmail).

if you haven't already guessed (because i use facebook religiously), i'm just a university student. my family has been with rogers since before i can even remember (that's home phone, cable internet, cable tv, even dial up hahah, and wireless) and my dad is a big tech geek, which he has passed on to me.

i have so far been too embarassed to admit that i am so obsessed with the iphone that i check this site every day, but i found some new info and had to share. i'd love to be able to afford the iphone, and look forward to engaging in discussion with you all!

I just got my new iPhone this morning at the Rogers store in Downtown Vancouver's Bentall center. I was on my way to the Dunsmuir store when I remembered there was a store there and I just thought I would check.

No line up, and they had a black 16gb in stock. Wow... lucky me. Did all the paperwork, was home by 8:30am. BTW, they still have some 8gb in stock.

By a very weird twist of fate, my HTC Touch packed it in last night. I couldn't have asked for better timing.

iPhone accessory plan 15

As someone who's come from a Treo 650 I must say I love this phone. It does everything I want to regarding data management and the web features are icing on the cake. This phone is going to get a lot of us out of it.

Hey everyone i just joined the forums today...

there isnt much i can say about myself, except that real name is Ivan im, in Toronto, Canada and I have been lurking this forums for about 2 months, and i finally decided to join today.

regarding my iphone.. rogers hates me.. they say ~$150 for ETF plus $499 for iphone 3G on a new contract for 3 years and ~$70/month service. (Nice huh.. even if i pay ETF im still tied to a new 3 year contract and i dont get iphone for a subsidized price). (Oh well this is why i have relatives w/o rogers contracts that are eligible for $199 price :) )

My name's Matt, I've been lurking in the shadows of this forum for the past month and just registered today because I finally had a reason to contribute (note: this is not my first post).

I'm currently using the most durable phone known to man (Samsung A660). Seriously, look up the reviews on it. Everyone who reviews it says the same thing: "No features but I can throw this phone off the top of an office building and it won't break". I've personally thrown the phone 20ft in the air while intoxicated, let the phone smash on the ground, then stepped on it a few times while trying to find it. 4 years running and the phone still works perfectly. That being said, after 4 years and a phone with no features, it's time for an upgrade. Which leads me to why I've been lurking...

I'm in the process of trying to decided on what phone I should upgrade to. I mean upgrade in the sense of going from worse->better because I'm currently on a month by month plan with Bell. I've narrowed my phone of choice down to 5 competitors, 3 of which aren't out until the fall. In no specific order:

iPhone 3G
Nokia N95 8GB
HTC Touch Pro (it may use WinMo, but they at least made it work better)
BlackBerry Thunder
Samsung i900 (ew, actual WinMo)

So, I've been lurking around on forums (and youtube for the pre-released phones) trying to get a feel for "What is the best phone for me".

I have been coming to this website for several months because I have wanted an iPhone for many many months. I only browsed/read the main page for information; but in the last month or so, I've been looking in the forums.

Due to rumours of "Robbers" bringing the iPhone to Canada, I kept postponing my purchase - I even went to NYC in April and didn't buy one, just so I could get one with Rogers, with warranty. I went on Friday July 11th to a few different Rogers Wireless stores and could have purchased an 8GB iPhone; as the 16GB quickly sold out. However, I opted to wait for the 16GB, black - I even left my name at another location where they called me to offer me the 16GB WHITE model; but I am still waiting for the black - just my preference!

About myself: Downtown Toronto, male, early-mid 30s, 5 months left on my Rogers contract.

I find this site very informative and am sure it will be a great help for iPhone newbies, like myself, in deciding to jailbreak/add applications, etc. Keep up the good work. :)

Hey everyone, I'm Jessie from Saskatchewan. I've been visiting this site for a few weeks, prepping for when(/if) my iPhone gets here. I'd been flip-flopping for a while about getting the iPhone, but in the end decided it would be a wise investment.
My experiences with Rogers and UPS so far have not been exactly fantastic, and the stress of waiting is killing me slowly! But it's been nice to be able to hear everyone else's experiences, and what I've read has made me even more excited to get my phonen in the mail!

I haven't actually introduced myself formally, partly because I didn't know this thread was here, and partly because I started posting around the time of the iPhone launch and never thought I'd still be hanging around here.... :)

As my sig now shows, I'm a Contributing Editor and Forum Admin over on iLounge.com, where I write the Ask iLounge column and some of the tutorials, as well as the occasional review.

I've been working in information technology for over 20 years, and still do IT consulting as my "day job" -- iLounge is just a side thing that keeps my interest.

I only became an Apple user about four years ago, when I started out with the iPod and iTunes as the thin edge of the wedge and then ended up converting over to a Powerbook G4 and then beyond. Since then I've become a complete convert to the whole iTunes/iPod ecosystem, with numerous iPods, two Apple TVs, and of course both the original and now the iPhone 3G.

i will say canada has some of the worst plans out there. $99 all i can use voice/data from AT&T in the states.. i get a small fraction of that here in canada.

Hi, I'm Wes and I live in Vancouver. I've been a Bell customer for years, but with the iPhone (16GB Black) and a decent corporate plan 'Rogers' ($18 - 200 anytime minutes, unlimited weekends, voice mail, call display, call waiting, call forwarding, group calling, LD canada 10 cents, US 15 cents and my activation fee waived) $30.00 6GB data, I took the plunge. Some of you may say 'what about unlimited evenings', it would be a $5.00 upgrage, but since I have a blackberry from work which costs me nothing, I get to enjoy both worlds :))))

Love the site, and I enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Great place to hang out and ask questions and swap stories. :D

Hi, I'm Deb! Just moved to the rockin town of Brockville from the big bad GTA a couple of weeks ago. We've been looking at iphone since the rumors of the release date started.

Just hooked up with our iphones on Wednesday. I had called Rogers to have them send one, but they were outta stock. So just walked right into the store in Nepean and voila! Last 2 on the shelf, and we are now hooked up and ready to go. Just need to get my internet at home hooked up and we will be good to go to add apps etc.

Just arrived in the virtual world, I bought this iphone and got astonished by all the possibilities !!

I'm Fido customer, and thought some "magic" can unlock my rogers white 16gb ... I've use it a few days... And realised I didn't like the (complicated)ways to do it !

So I have this iphone with no phone.. let's say I have this Ipod, with great display and no calls :(

I'm glad you guys made a Canadian website, so we can talk about our carriers.

Bonjour, and thanks for welcoming ...

I bought this rogers 16gb from a friend in a Rogers store...

Tried desperately to unlock...

the jailbreak is ok, it runs perfectly, but still no fido signal.

Updated my sim card for an O2, still nothing...

I decided (prematurely) to sell it and buy a fido one, from out-of-the-store ;)

As simple as that !

Hi Im MC from Calgary.

I just upgraded to an iPhone 3g on Rogers from a BB Curve 8300.

I loved my BlackBerry, but the iPhone always intrigued me, so I decided to take the plunge. Got a white 16gb with a 6gb data plan.

Ive already Jailbroken my iPhone, and ordered a Sena Elega pouch. I did order the IS, but Im thinking I might not install it after reading some not so nice reviews.

The only thing I dont like so far is the speaker on my iPhone. The ringer is quiet even on its loudest setting, and the speakerphone is pathetic. I was recently on a conference call and I put it on speakerphone so my colleagues could listen in on the call, but even in a small board room it was difficult to hear unless you were less than 6 feet from the phone. My BB was 10x better on speakerphone.

Anyways, looking forward to getting some new app's and learning from the people on these boards about my new iPhone.

Hi,

I am Dominique from Aylmer (Gatineau) Quebec.
I am running a Black iPhone 3G, 16 GB (not jailbroken - Christmas Gift).
I have the $60 iPhone package from Rogers.

To only negatives I find to date are:
1. bluetooth calling (lack of hands-free dialing).
2. No support for Nike Sport Kit.
3. Recent list can only be sorted by "ALL or MISSED", not "IN, OUT, MISSED"

Other than that, great phone. Still too many positives to list.
